I know November is the month where we are supposed to be thankful for stuff, but I have always been more thankful for August myself. I am thankful that I can go to a Mariners game without bringing my down coat, and for the Blue Angels and hydroplanes and sticky snow cones and the smell of hot dogs grilling on Occidental Avenue. I would be more thankful if there was air conditioning in the hot shop where I blow glass, but you can't have everything.
Onwards, to the law

In the first of three law-related events that all occurred on the same day, King County Washing-ton Women Lawyers held its Judicial Appreciation and Honors Luncheon. The honorees with law degrees were Justice Tom Chambers, Judge of the Year; Judge Laura Inveen, Vanguard Award; and Eileen Concannon, President's Award. Wisely, the wait staff served dessert first, which almost made up for the lack of pre-festivity drinks. A glass of water or Diet Coke during the schmoozing part of the festivities sure would have been nice on such a hot day.
Later the same day, the King County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section elected the following officers: Chair Nancy Williams; Chair-Elect Amy Stephson; Treasurer Anne Senter; Secretary Shelly Shapiro; and Trustees Cliff Freed, Mike Reiss, Shelley Kostrinsky, Geoff Boodell and Beth Terrell. The event was accompanied by a hosted open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres. It was coupled with a fascinating CLE presentation (no, that is not an oxymoron) on sports law by counsel for the Mariners, Sonics and Seahawks.
The King County Bar Association Annual Dinner was held the same night as the WWL Luncheon and the Labor Law Section annual meeting, but since we already published the award recipients, I will not repeat them here. I also can't tell you how the food was because I skipped the dinner.
Graham & Dunn recently elected Kumi Yamamoto Baruffi and Michael Fandel to the firm's Board of Directors. Baruffi's practice focuses on financial and general business transactions. Fandel serves on the firm's Hospitality, Beverage and Franchise Industry Team.
