February, March and April Board Meetings

The following is a summary of key actions taken at the King County Bar Association Board of Trustees’ meeting
of June 15, 2005. Complete minutes of this and other Board meetings are available from the KCBA office.
WSBA BOG Meeting. President John M. Cary attended the WSBA BOG meeting in Bellevue. He shared highlights from the board meeting and reported that the WSBA voted to oppose the tort reform initiative.
KCBA Newcomers Resource Pro-ject to Co-Sponsor Conference. At
the recommendation of Victoria Cherniak, program chair of the New-
comers Project, the Board agreed to co-sponsor the June 25, 2005 Town Hall Forum on Immigration. This forum focused on important issues like citizenship and legalization, justice on the job, civil rights and civil liberties.
Drug Policy Project Update.
Roger Goodman gave an informational update on the activities of the Drug Policy Project (DPP). Goodman gave board members a copy of a report entitled “Drug-Related Crime and Disorder: Practical Policy Options (Reducing Crim-inal Justice Exposure Through Early Intervention).”
Goodman reported that the Speakers Bureau will be expanded. He also noted that DPP is thinking of having committees on children and families and on law enforcement. The DPP is looking to expand the Steering Committee to include other groups and Bar Associa-tions.
Executive Session - Fair Cam-paign Practices Complaint.
The board reviewed an alleged violation of the KCBA Fair Campaign Practices Guidelines.
