Law Library

    In the Spirit of Thanksgiving...

    By Jean Holcomb

The Board and staff of the King County Law Library offer our appreciation to the local legal community for the support and understanding shown during the period of the relocation of Seattle library.

We’re excited about the changes we’ve made to make our space more functional and welcoming. In particular, we’re pleased to be able to offer conference rooms again. The five conference rooms have been remodeled. We accept reservations for two of the conference rooms. Contact the library at (206) 296-0940 to make a reservation for a conference room when you need a private space in the courthouse to meet with a client or prepare for a court appearance.

Breaking with tradition, the “no food and drink” sign no longer appears on the library’s front door. Beverages in covered containers will be allowed in the library, and food will be permitted in the library’s conference rooms.

In addition to comfortable seating and study carrels wired so that library users can plug in their lap top computers, the library now provides free Wi-Fi access. We hope that, when you’re in the courthouse with your computer, you’ll stop by the sixth floor to test the capabilities and convenience of our wi-fi “hot spot.”

Now that we’re back in our sixth floor Courthouse home, we look forward to strengthening ties and developing new programs.

Holiday Hours: the libraries in Seattle and at the RJC will be closed on Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veterans’ Day. For a full listing of November and December holiday hours and closings, visit the library’s web site at www.kcll.org.

85th Anniversary Campaign Progress Report: Even though the Library’s back in its old home, it’s not too late to become a contributor! Items remain on our priority for purchase list that we’ve been unable to fund. Donors who make a gift at the $250.00 level and above will be recognized by having their names listed on a commemorative plaque that will be displayed in the Library. For more about the Campaign and how you can make a gift, visit www.kcll.org/ fundraising.

Internet Class Topic: The Seattle Law Library Internet lunch-break class for web users will be held on the third Thursday of the month on the sixth floor of the County Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue. On November 18, the class will cover how to use the library’s new wi-fi “hot spot” service. Those who register for the November class will be encouraged to bring their own laptops to practice connecting to the hot spot service. In preparation for the upcoming 2005 Legislative session, the December 16 class will describe sources for Wash-ngton legislative information. To register, contact Denise at KCBA at (206) 340-2578. For information about the training, contact Rita Kaiser at (206) 296-0940. For information about additional training opportunities, view the monthly training calendar on the library’s web page at www.kcll.org.
