Make Change! Now offered in South King County

The King County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Services was recently awarded new funding by the Attorney General’s Office to expand services to tenants and debtors, particularly in South King County.  This new funding has presented us with a wonderful opportunity. For many years we have offered a debt education course called Make Change!, but the course has been offered only in Seattle. This two hour course is taught by experienced bankruptcy and consumer attorneys and covers a range of topics including managing debt, dealing with creditors and bankruptcy.

Highline College has been a wonderful partner in bringing the Make Change! curriculum to South King County. In addition to providing the physical space for the monthly trainings they have also recruited volunteer paralegal students who help with running the course and advertising.  We hope that eventually the students, supervised by volunteer attorneys, will help participants with responding to debt collectors or providing appropriate referrals to needed legal assistance.
