The  King County Bar Association Pro Bono Services department works with over 1,300 volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students to provide free legal services to low-income King County residents. Consumer Issues

Make Change! Debt Education Workshop

Make Change! is a free debt education workshop which informs people about the legal issues surrounding debt and bankruptcy.

Neighborhood Legal Clinics

The Neighborhood Legal Clinics offer a free half-hour consultation with an attorney on any civil legal issue. Attorneys determine whether the client has a legal problem, suggest possible options, and provide appropriate referrals. Volunteer Legal Services

Volunteer Legal Services
(VLS) offers eligible clients direct representation with Chapter 7 bankruptcy and debt defense. For more information on how to access Volunteer Legal Services, click here.
 


Family Law

 

Family Law Mentor Program

Family Law Mentor Program assists low-income King County residents who are married or unmarried parents with contested family law cases (dissolution, petitions to establish a parenting plan, or paternity cases) where children are at risk due to domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, or alcohol/drug abuse. Self Help-Plus Program

The Self Help-Plus Program assists clients in non-contested marriage dissolutions (divorces that are agreed or in which the other party will not respond). As well as clients who need to establish a parenting plan and child support in non-contested cases when the father has already been determined.

Kinship Care Solutions Project

The Kinship Care Solutions Project provides free legal representation for relatives and other caregivers seeking custody (also known as third party custody) of a child/children through a panel of volunteer attorneys. Neighborhood Legal Clinics

The Neighborhood Legal Clinics have family law clinics which offer individuals a free half-hour consultation with an attorney on any family law issue (including parenting plans and child support). The Neighborhood Legal Clinics have clinics which offer individuals a free half-hour consultation with an attorney on any civil legal issue including vacating your criminal record. Attorneys determine whether the client has a legal problem, suggest possible options, and provide appropriate referrals. Call the Neighborhood Legal Clinics to make an appointment with an attorney who will determine your eligibility for direct representation. Housing

Housing Justice Project

The Housing Justice Project(HJP) provides free legal help to eligible low-income tenants facing eviction. HJP clinics meet Monday - Friday in the mornings at the Seattle King County Courthouse and the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. HJP also offers a clinic on Monday evenings at the Seattle King County Courthouse. For more information on how to access the Housing Justice Project, click here.

Other Legal Help and Community Resources

If the legal issue that you need help with is not listed above, please visit our community resources page, call 2-1-1 which is a community information line, or make an appointment at our Neighborhood Legal Clinics where you can talk to an attorney and receive advice on any civil legal issue for a half hour for free.

If you would like to hire an attorney please visit our Lawyer Referral Service webpage or call 206-267-7010. KCBA's Lawyer Referral Service responds to about 40,000 callers per year, referring them to attorneys in many areas of law or to relevant agencies. The Lawyer Referral Service is a public service of the nonprofit King County Bar Association. The service meets American Bar Association standards for the operation of lawyer referral services.

The King County Bar Association's Pro Bono Services department does not have attorneys who specialize in criminal law.
