You can be a part of the effort to reduce the carbon-based greenhouse gases that are causing climate changes. Here are a few easy tips for reducing your carbon footprint.
- Tune up your home heating system.
- Replace or remove aging and inefficient refrigerators and freezers.
- Compost food waste.
- Wear warm clothes in the winter instead of turning up the heat.
- Close your curtains, drapes or blinds either to keep heat in during the winter or to keep the sun out during the summer.
- Make sure power-saving “sleep” functions are enabled on computers.
- Set your thermostat to 65 degrees during the day and 55 at night.
- When replacing major appliances, buy the most efficient ones you can find.
- Wash full loads of dishes and clothes using cold water if possible.
- Install compact fluorescent light bulbs.
