4C Fest Mixes Business with Pleasure

By Kathleen Jensen

More than 120 attorneys, judges and guests gathered with KCBA staff members at the 4th Annual Coffee, Chocolate, Cabernet and Cheese Celebration on March 6 at the Women’s University Club. It was a great opportunity to once again mingle with colleagues, while being educated on the finer points of the delectable treats and wines provided by local vendors.

This year’s celebration featured amazing desserts from the Alaska Silk Pie Company; delicious chocolates, including chocolate-covered fortune cookies, from Emily’s Chocolates; and creamy orange, mocha and mint truffles, complete with omega-3, from Dr. Dave’s Omega 3 Foods. Attendees also enjoyed the chance to sample wines from Billington Wines, which featured imported wines from Catena Winery in Mendoza Argentina, and 2005 vintage wines by Legoe Bay Winery, located in the beautiful San Juan Islands. KCBA member Carol Bryant, owner of Nota Bene Cellars, showcased some of their Washington red wines.

Guests also enjoyed Starbucks liqueurs from Futurebrands, learned about the fine-roasted blends that have made Starbucks world renowned and sampled gourmet cheeses compliments of the KCBA.

While most of the evening was spent in decadent bliss, a small portion was devoted to business. KCBA members in attendance approved the amendments to the KCBA Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation that were reported in the February edition of the Bar Bulletin. The changes include a revision to clarify the Secretary’s position and the method of determining the number of trustees to be elected to each of the districts in the county; an increase in the number of trustees from 16 to 17; clearer district delineations; and proportional division of trustee positions among the three districts based on KCBA membership.

Membership changes allow for Associate members to become Regular members with all rights of Regular members if they pay full dues and designate the district in which they are eligible to vote. Several revisions have been made to permit the use of email and other electronic means to conduct KCBA business. A full version detailing the amendments as approved by the membership can be viewed on the KCBA Web site at http://www.kcba.org/bylaws/pdf/KCBABYLAWSamendments.pdf.

The evening drew to a close with a giveaway as members and guests vied for the opportunity to depart with yet more samples of the evening’s treats. The lucky winners left with pies and wine donated by several of the sponsors.
