The South King County Bar Association’s annual dinner with the Washington Supreme Court justices is slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at The Mark Restaurant near the Supreme Court. The cost for this event is $50 per person.
The evening will start at the Temple of Justice with an optional friendly tour conducted by Chief Justice Gerry Alexander, beginning at 5:30 p.m. During the tour, the Chief Justice shares his insider’s perspective on the structure and workings of the Court, including the bench’s deliberative process in chambers. Appellate attorneys will find this aspect of the tour most compelling.
The Chief Justice also has a deep passion for the Court’s history. He has been retrieving the Court’s artwork and furniture that has migrated elsewhere around the state. The result is a beautifully appointed and history-steeped edifice. Washington’s appellate bar is fortunate to have such an impressive forum in which to practice.
After the tour, attendees will reconvene at The Mark for a social hour and dinner, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is typically well attended by the justices because it is a rare opportunity for them to meet informally with appellate practitioners and other attorneys. It also is a great opportunity for members of the bar. How often will you have the chance in your legal career to dine with a Supreme Court justice on either side of you and another across the table?
If at least 10 attendees are interested, SKCBA will provide a vanpool, departing from the RJC at 4 p.m. SKCBA supplies light snacks and beverages for the trip. If you prefer to visit with your friends and colleagues, and save the gas and hassle of driving, then sign up for the vanpool when you make your reservation. Notification will be sent by Friday, March 16 about whether enough people have signed up.
All members of the state bar are welcome to attend, along with a spouse or friend. Please call or email SKCBA President Patrick Hanis at 253-520-5000 or phanis@hiplawfirm.com to make a reservation. Attendance is limited to around 30, so reserve your seat early.
