YLD Honors Top Mentors

On January 24, the King County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD) recognized local attorneys and professionals nominated by their peers for the Outstanding Mentor Award as part of its third annual Winter Social.

The YLD received 11 excellent nominations and the committee was faced with a tough decision of selecting only one recipient. After much deliberation, the committee decided to honor all 11 nominees with a certificate of recognition and to select three recipients for the Outstanding Mentor Award: Richard Clinton, Catherine Hendricks and Michael Wampold.

Clinton is a partner at Dorsey & Whitney and is recognized as one of the premier antitrust litigators in the country. His nominators said that Clinton is “the most humble person you will ever meet,” despite his many personal and professional accomplishments. His acceptance speech proved this to be true.

Hendricks is senior counsel at the Office of the Attorney General, where she primarily handles appeals for the Torts Division. In her nomination, Hendricks was recognized as “an excellent teacher” and praised for being “as articulate as she is patient.” But Hendricks does not limit her mentoring to young lawyers at the Attorney General’s Office. As a former teacher, Hendricks still takes time from her busy schedule to mentor law students.

Wampold is a partner at Peterson Young Putra where his practice focuses on medical negligence, personal injury and products liability. Wampold is the father of three young children, but makes time to mentor young attorneys on “how to love the practice of law.” From his seemingly boundless energy and enthusiasm, it is clear that Wampold loves being a lawyer.

In addition to recognizing the nominees and awardees of the Outstanding Mentor Award, the YLD had the privilege to honor Alice Paine, former KCBA executive director, for all the invaluable guidance and advice she tirelessly provided to the YLD over the years. The YLD presented Paine with a certificate and a small gift of appreciation and wished her the best in her well-deserved retirement.
