The Volunteer Attorneys For Persons With HIV/AIDS (VAPWA) Program recognizes Kevin Magorien as Community Legal Services Volunteer of the Month. VAPWA, a King County Bar Association program, provides referrals for legal representation on civil legal issues for people living with HIV/AIDS in Washington.
Magorien has been on VAPWA’s panel of attorneys since 1996. He has handled a multitude of cases for VAPWA clients since then. Primarily, Magorien has taken pro bono cases in the areas of estate planning, bankruptcy, debt and other consumer/finance issues.
These are all areas of great need for people with HIV/AIDS. The health challenges that people with HIV/AIDS face often lead to problems with debt due to medical bills and the inability to work at the same level they enjoyed before becoming HIV-positive.
The estate planning services Magorien provides to VAPWA clients are invaluable. He helps the clients plan for a future that may include dementia, long periods of hospitalization, death and other unknown situations that may arise as they are living with HIV/AIDS.
Magorien is motivated to volunteer because he sees the great need in the community and enjoys the appreciative clients that he serves.
Magorien was admitted to practice in 1978 and went into private practice in 1980, primarily as a sole practitioner. The focus of his practice is debtor-creditor law, particularly bankruptcy. In addition to running his own practice and volunteering for VAPWA, Magorien volunteers at one of KCBA’s Neighborhood Legal Clinics.
Congratulations to Kevin Magorien for being selected as the Community Legal Services Volunteer of the Month. The VAPWA program thanks him for his continued efforts to support and serve people living with HIV/AIDS.
