July 2011
Dear Friend,
I am pleased to invite you to become a member of the King County Bar
Association. With approximately 5400
members, KCBA is the largest voluntary bar association in the Pacific
Northwest. We are committed to serving a
diverse membership, strengthening our justice system and building a stronger
community.
As a member of
KCBA, you will become a part of our influential network, giving you the
opportunity to play a role in shaping the practice of law in King County. The myriad opportunities we provide include
16 practice sections and 16 committees; a wide range of legal professionals
willing to share insights, experiences and contacts; the capacity to advocate
for a just and accessible legal system and profession; and the opportunity to
work to achieve excellence in the administration of justice.
For newer
attorneys, our Young Lawyers Division is a great resource for networking and
gaining knowledge and experience for your practice. Additionally, you will have a number of
opportunities to give back to the community through the YLD Community
Involvement Committee.
No
matter where you are in your career, KCBA can open doors, enhance your practice
and provide numerous opportunities to become involved and meet new
colleagues. Join today and let KCBA work
for you!

Make a Difference in our
Community
If there's one thing that our history tells us, it's that lawyers who choose
to join KCBA are not in it just for themselves.
-
KCBA was formed in large part as a reaction to local attorneys who
supported illegal efforts to forcibly deport Chinese immigrants. Since then, we have spoken out on many
law-related issues of public and social importance, including opposition to McCarthy era restrictions
on the right of accused persons to legal counsel and support for equal
rights and equal treatment for women, minorities, and members of the GLBT
community.
-
Pro bono work has been a priority of the King
County Bar Association since 1939. KCBA’s
Pro Bono Services department gives members the opportunity to volunteer
with one of our programs, supporting our efforts to provide civil legal
aid to our low income neighbors.
Your KCBA dues, CLE and Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) dollars
support our pro bono programs.
I’m proud of
KCBA’s dedication to speaking out on behalf of the oppressed and
underprivileged, including its provision of legal services for low-income
residents of King County. As a member of
the bar, you can help us continue this work, with a view to making our
community the best it can be.
Additional Member Benefits
As always, you can count on KCBA to deliver services you
rely on, including discounted rates for our quality CLE programs; opportunities
for you to earn CLE credits through practice section meetings; LRS membership
at a reduced fee; group rates on medical, dental, and vision insurance;
discounts on other products and services; and your subscription to our monthly Bar Bulletin.
Finally, we have made a commitment to continue to improve the value of
your membership. For example, you now can attend many section meetings and CLEs
via live video-streaming, so you don't even need to leave the comfort of your
office. And we're working to make some
CLE programs available as video on demand.
I heartily look
forward to working with you over the next year to make KCBA, and your
membership, all they can be.
Please let us know if you have any suggestions.
Sincerely,
Joseph E.
