WHO WE SERVE
The Newcomers Resource Project provides free legal assistance for low income immigrants and refugees in King County, regardless of immigration status
WHAT WE DO
- Direct Representation: The program may be able to refer you to a volunteer attorney for a variety of non-immigration civil (non-criminal) legal problems:
- Bankruptcy (Chapter 7 only)
- Consumer Issues
- Family
- Housing
- Public Benefits
- Real Estate
- Criminal Records
- Tort Defense
- Uncontested Guardianship
- Wage Claims
- Wills andEstate Planning
- Legal Education Workshops: Project staff and volunteers are available to hold workshops for social service agencies and community groups on a variety of legal issues (immigration, employment, wage claim, estate planning, housing, taxes, etc)
- Wage Claim Project: This program provides assistance for individuals who are being denied their wages or who have other wage and hour problems with their employers. Eligible clients are referred to a volunteer attorney for assistance.
- Interpreters provided for all services.

- Small claims cases
- Suing another person or business

To be screened for eligibility for a volunteer attorney, call (206) 461-3200 or simply dial 211 from within Washington State or email CLS@KCBA.org with "Newcomers" in the subject line.
HOW TO PREPARE
- Gather all related paperwork.
- Decide on the desired outcome or goal.
- Identify all deadlines.
- Tell the intake screener about these deadlines.
- Be prepared to tell the history of your legal issue to the intake screener over the phone.
