The King County Bar Association was pleased to host its Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 24. The event, which honors the distinguished achievement of award recipients, also recognizes KCBA’s accomplishments in service to its community throughout the previous year. The annual “Passing of the Gavel” tradition marked the commencement of Mark Fordham’s tenure serving as KCBA President for 2010-2011 while noting the accomplishments of James Andrus, KCBA President for 2009-2010.
Local dignitaries, including King County Executive Dow Constantine, King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson, City of Seattle Councilmember Nick Licata and City Attorney Peter Holmes, were on hand to enjoy the celebration. KCBA also welcomed Honorable Betty Fletcher from the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and Honorable Marcy Alice Theiler of U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington. The Washington Court of Appeals, Division 1, was represented by Honorable Marlin Appelwick, Honorable Linda Lau, Honorable Ann Schindler and Honorable Michael Spearman.
Awards were presented to John M. Davis of Davis Write Tremaine LLP as Outstanding Lawyer, Shankar Narayan of the American Civil Liberties Union as Outstanding Young Lawyer and Honorable Bruce W. Hilyer, Presiding Judge of King County Superior Court, as Outstanding Judge. Additionally, the President’s Award was given to Karren W. Murray of the Associated Counsel for the Accused and Ruth Nelson was presented with the Pro Bono Award. The Friend of the Legal Profession Award was presented to the Protection Order Advocacy Program of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. See the award videos.
