Course Description:
The purpose of this workshop is to outline a structured model for matching legal and mental health interventions to the characteristics of high conflict families. We will introduce a structured model of family characteristics with a particular focus on chronically distressed litigious parents. In specific, the workshop will outline
the rationale for using a range of interventions including: Case Management, Parenting Therapy, Individual Adult Therapy, Child Therapy, and Co-parent Counseling. We will discuss indications and contra-indications for each intervention as well as specific methods that distinguish one approach from another. We will identify strategies for prioritizing issues, timing and sequencing interventions, and for facilitating collaboration between professionals. Several case examples will serve to illustrate key distinctions in families and in treatment approaches.
