Governor Christine Gregoire signed Senate Bill 6032 into law on May 8, 2007. This new law reaffirms Washington’s commitment to making medical marijuana available to seriously ill patients and protecting them from arrest or prosecution. Attorneys who advise physicians, osteopaths, and health care facilities; elder law attorneys; and criminal law practitioners all would benefit from learning about the changes SB 6032 makes to the Washington State Medical Use of Marijuana Act. Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D-Seattle) was the bill’s prime sponsor, and Senators Bob McCaslin (R-Spokane Valley), Adam Kline (D-Seattle), Debbie Regala (D-Tacoma) and Karen Keiser (D-Kent) were cosponsors.
