Hague Convention On International Child Abduction
Chad Allred, Ellis, Li & Mckinstry Pllc, Seattle, Washington

April 22, 2005 - 12:15 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
KCBA Large Conference Room
1200 5th Ave Suite 600, Seattle, WA

Has your client’s spouse taken their child to another country without permission? Is your client accused of this? Or is your client in a troubled relationship but still planning to move abroad with her spouse and kids—perhaps for a military assignment? If so, you should be aware of the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction. This international treaty allows a parent to sue for the return of the child to the child’s habitual residence. And the Convention can even trump a custody ruling made in the new country. The Convention can apply to Americans living abroad and to foreigners living here in the U.S. On April 22, from 12:15 to 2:00 p.m., the King County Bar Association will sponsor a lunchtime seminar that will introduce you to the Hague Convention, explain how it works, and equip you to spot Convention issues that may help or harm your client that is involved in an international custody dispute
