Free Legal Assistance

The King County Bar Association Pro Bono Services department works with over 1400 volunteer attorneys, paralegals, law students and community members to provide free legal assistance for low income King County residents. Click on a link below to learn more.


General Legal Advice

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
Provides FREE 30 minute consultations with an attorney at 34 locations across King County, including locations specializing in debt, bankruptcy, and family law issues. Attorneys determine whether the client has a legal problem, suggest possible options, and provide appropriate referrals. NLC attorneys will not represent you in court. NLC is a limited legal service and should not be considered a substitute for representation.


Debt and Bankruptcy

Make Change! Debt Education Workshop
A free debt education workshop that informs people about the legal issues surrounding debt and bankruptcy.

Neighborhood Legal Clinics

Volunteer Legal Services
Offers eligible clients direct representation with Chapter 7 bankruptcy and debt defense matters.


Estate Planning &Public Benefits

Volunteer Legal Services
Offers eligible clients direct representation with estate planning and SSI/SSDI overpayments.


Family Law

Family Law Mentor Program
Assists low-income King County residents who are married or unmarried parents with contested family law cases (dissolution, petitions to establish a parenting plan, or paternity cases) where children are at risk due to domestic violence, child abuse, neglect, or alcohol/drug abuse.

Kinship Care Solutions Project
Provides free legal representation for relatives and other caregivers seeking custody (also known as third party custody) of a child/children.

Self Help-Plus Program
Assists clients with non-contested marriage dissolutions (divorces that are agreed or in which the other party will not respond), parenting plans and child support in non-contested cases when the father has already been determined.

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
General family law matters. Provides free 30-minute consultation with a family law attorney.


Housing

Housing Justice Project
Provides free legal help to eligible low-income tenants facing eviction in King County.


Vacating Criminal Records

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
For help with vacating criminal records call the Neighborhood Legal Clinics to make an appointment with an attorney who will determine your eligibility for direct representation.

Volunteer Orientation

On the first Wednesday of each month, PBS hosts a volunteer orientation for new volunteers from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the KCBA offices.
