The committee's primary purpose is to evaluate and propose to the KCBA Board possible changes in judicial administration and conduct studies and projects designed to enhance Bench-Bar relationships. In the recent past the committee has had subcommittees that reviewed the King County Superior Court Local Rules and worked to make available optional sets of pre-approval pattern discovery requests.

In November 2003, the committee split into 3 subcommittees to study and formulate proposals to change KC Sup Court Local Rules to place a presumptive cap on the number of written discovery requests that could be propounded in civil cases, set limits on depositions and require expert witness reports to be disclosed; make available optional sets of pre-approval pattern discovery requests and create a presumptive deadline for mediation or other ADR proceedings within the first several months after a civil case is filed. The committees continue to work on these issues. In addition, the committees evaluate and propose to KCBA Board possible changes in judicial administration and court rules, propose studies and projects designed to enhance Bench-Bar relations, and assist in planning and implementing the biennial KCBA Bench-Bar Conference.
