Business of the Board: Seattle Municipal Court Previews Possible Budget Cuts

The following are highlights from the KCBA Board of Trustees meeting held on October 16, convened by KCBA President Jennifer Payseno.

Judge Ed McKenna, Seattle Municipal Court presiding judge, briefed the trustees on proposed budget cuts suggested by some City Council members that would reduce funding for the court and probation services, essentially eliminating a judge’s ability to utilize probation for individuals who do not qualify for voluntary diversion programs. Judge McKenna will alert KCBA when it would be most helpful to weigh in to support the Court’s budget.
