In early October, I participated in the swearing-in ceremony admitting new members into the Washington State Bar Association. It was a timely reminder of the oath that we take as attorneys and the ethical rules we are bound to follow. Many attorneys — and almost certainly these new attorneys just starting their careers — are unaware these rules are likely to change over the next several years, following a trend that began outside the U.S. and is now being considered in California.
