An Update on Pending First Amendment Challenges To Mandatory Bar Association Membership and Fees

In the July and August issues of this year’s Bar Bulletin, I wrote about the efforts of the Washington Supreme Court’s Work Group on Bar Structure and the multiple lawsuits pending in several states challenging, on First Amendment grounds, the requirement of mandatory membership in a bar association as a condition to practicing law.
