I recently attended the annual meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) in D.C. to accept the Association’s award for Excellence in Community Outreach for the King County Law Library’s Self-Represented Litigant Workshop series. While this was the buzzworthy event of the conference for me, the topic creating a lot of buzz for other attendees was brief analysis.

In a nutshell, brief analyzers allow one to download a brief (or other legal document) and run an analysis using artificial intelligence to find relevant case law that would be missed using traditional legal research tools. Casetext was the first to roll out this...
