Big Changes to State Landlord-Tenant Acts

The Washington Legislature passed some significant changes to both the Residential Landlord-Tenant Act (the “RLTA”) and the Manufactured/Mobile Home Landlord-Tenant Act (the “MHLTA”) earlier this year, which went into effect on July 28.

The RLTA regulates the creation of residential tenancies and the relationship between landlords and tenants of residential dwelling units. It establishes the rights and duties of both landlords and tenants, procedures for the parties to enforce their rights, and remedies for violations of both rental agreements and the RLTA.
