Since forming the King County Law Library Foundation last year, I’ve been thinking a lot about philanthropy and what sustains foundations. A mentor told me that people often make the mistake of assuming that it is big donors who are the engines of charitable giving, when in reality it is small donors who become invested in the mission and continue to give over time. So, while it would wonderful to be on the receiving end of MacKenzie Bezos’ philanthropy,1 the small donors in our community will be our champions.
