RPC Changes Proposed for Attorney Advertising and Solicitation

The following are highlights from the KCBA Board of Trustees meeting held on March 20, convened by KCBA First Vice President Jennifer Payseno.

Jane Morrow, Judiciary and Litigation Committee co-chair, briefed the trustees on the committee’s concern regarding proposed changes to the Rules of Professional Conduct regarding lawyer advertising and solicitation (Rule 7). The committee recommends that criminal law, personal injury, family law and consumer/debt/bankruptcy law should be excluded from in-person solicitation because of the potential for abuse and the particular vulnerability of the potential client.
