On July 1, the Domestic Worker Ordinance will go into effect in the City of Seattle. The ordinance will provide protections to nannies, house cleaners, home-care workers and gardeners, among other workers who work in or around the homes of Seattle residents.
This ordinance is historic. While nine states have passed domestic workers bills of rights, Seattle is the first city in the country to pass such an ordinance. Seattle’s ordinance also provides some critical new protections and standards for domestic workers that no state bill has included to date.
