We’ve seen this scenario play out dozens of times: a company is accused of some form of misdeed, and usually through the efforts of the plaintiff, the issue is front and center in the media. When the reporter calls to get our side of the story, our recommendation to share our perspective on the issue is nixed by SANTA — not the beneficent provider of toys, but an attorney who subscribes to the SANTA philosophy: Say Absolutely Nothing To Anyone.
In my experience, SANTA — which comes in many familiar forms, from saying “no comment” to simply ignoring a reporter’s inquiries — hinders more than it helps....
