Seattle Clemency Project: Freedom Fighters Taking It One Inmate at a Time

Dean was a much younger man when he and two friends, “Joe” and “Bob,” were on a bender and ran out of beer. So, they decided to steal some from a convenience store. Bob would be the lookout, Joe was supposed to distract the clerk and Dean would grab the beer from the cooler.

While Joe was setting the screen, he got into an argument with the clerk, who started reaching under the counter. Joe thought he was reaching for a gun and told the clerk, “Go for yours and we’ve got ours,” implying that Joe had a gun, although he didn’t....
