Juvenile Justice Task Force Presents Recommendations

The following are highlights from the KCBA Board of Trustees meeting held on March 21, convened by KCBA President Andrew Maron.

KCBA’s Juvenile Justice Reform Task Force Co-Chair Nicole McGrath reported on the group’s activities over the past 18 months including: (1) statutory changes, penalties and fines; (2) detention services; (3) school-to-prison pipeline; and (4) model reforms/legal research. She also presented a slate of policy recommendations for review by the Board. Co-chair Judge Anne Ellington explained juvenile sentencing guidelines and auto-decline procedures. The Board was to continue discussion on the slate of recommendations at its April meeting.
