Because I recently concluded a rotation on the Involuntary Treatment Act (“ITA”) calendar, Presiding Judge Laura Inveen has asked me to share the work of that program as well as some of the innovations and improvements that we have rolled out over the past year.
The ITA Court hears cases involving the involuntary hospitalization of patients who, due to a mental disorder, are dangerous to themselves or others or are not able to meet their basic needs of health and safety. These patients are typically in severe crisis; many have survived trauma.
