Using Conflict Intervention To Prevent Homelessness
By Lori Buchsbaum
On November 9, the KCBA Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section hosted a presentation about a unique and innovative program to prevent homelessness — The Conflict Intervention Service (CIS) in Affordable Housing: https://www.sfbar.org/adr/cis.aspx. The program is funded by the City and County of San Francisco and run by the Bar Association of San Francisco.
The program’s goals are to:
• De-escalate tensions that can lead to eviction;
• Bring mediation and conflict coaching to tenants and landlords interested in resolving housing conflicts;
• Reduce the costs of evictions for tenants and housing providers alike; and
• Interrupt and prevent cycles of homelessness....
