A young Tom Cruise, at the height of his powers, plays a top graduate from Harvard Law, Mitch McDeere. Based on the novel of the same name by John Grisham, Mitch and his new wife Abby (Jeanne Tripplehorn) are given everything by the firm: big salary, a house and a car, and a gruff mentor at the firm, Avery Tolar (Gene Hackman).
